Pregnant wife of Tulsa coach John Beckley dies at 30 after medical emergency

The Tulsa football community is grieving after Kayla Saager-Beckley, the pregnant wife of assistant coach John Beckley, died at 30 following a medical emergency at home. The former Binghamton University soccer player was expecting a daughter, Sawyer. Her sudden passing has devastated her family, friends and the Golden Hurricanes coaching staff.Kayla Saager-Beckley dies after medical emergencyTulsa head coach Tre Lamb announced Kayla's death during a September 15 press conference. He said the tragedy had deeply affected the entire football programme.“We had a tragic death in our football family last Wednesday morning. One of our coach’s wives, John Beckley, our outside linebackers coach, his wife, Kayla, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning at about 7 a.m. of a medical emergency,” Lamb told reporters.Kayla was working out at home when the medical emergency occurred. She was found unresponsive about 10 minutes later.“10 minutes later she was found unresponsive,” Lamb said.The 30-year-old was pregnant with the couple's daughter, Sawyer. Her death has left the coaching staff and their families struggling to process the loss.“It’s just been a really hard week for him, for us as a staff, our coach’s wives,” Lamb continued. “She was 30 years old. She was pregnant with their daughter, Sawyer. It’s been tough on our staff. We had a memorial for her last night. We just ask that you please pray for the Saager family, the Beckley family.”The cause of death has not been announced. The school's women's soccer coach, Neel Bhattacharjee, remembered her talent and contribution to the programme.“Binghamton women’s soccer is profoundly saddened by the passing of Kayla Saager-Beckley. Kayla was a dangerous and dynamic forward with a true gift for finding the back of the net, and her contributions helped elevate the competitiveness and stature of our program.”The university also recognised Kayla's kindness and devotion to her loved ones.“To this day we stand on her shoulders. Beyond the field, she was known for her big heart and her deep love of family. We are devastated by this loss and send our heartfelt sympathy and support to her parents Ron and Noranne and her husband John. Kayla, you are forever and always a Bearcat.
