“Wrong Firing,” “Needed a Scapegoat”: NFL Fans Question Dave Canales as Panthers Fire DC Ejiro Evero After Packers Loss

After a 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football, the Carolina Panthers have decided to fire defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, per NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Canales retained Evero as defensive coordinator in 2024 when he took over the head coaching position.

However, the Panthers' defensive struggles have stood out the most as they currently sit on a 3-4 record with a two-game losing streak to conference opponents. The team currently allows 27.6 points per game, making it the sixth-worst defense in the league.

While some fans were relieved after Ejiro's firing, others claimed the team's offensive struggles were the key factor behind the Green Bay loss, as the Panthers could only muster 19 points, including a failed two-point conversion.

"I don't think Evero is the problem out there. But I guess they needed a scapegoat…"

"Wrong firing. Their defense was the only thing that kept them in the game. Offense was atrocious."

Dave Canales Claims Bryce Young's Mobility Affected Offense Against Packers

While Bryce Young threw for 209 yards on 41 passing attempts, including a touchdown and an interception against the Packers, he did not account for any rushing yards while also taking six sacks for 33 yards.

Head coach Dave Canales claimed the quarterback's injuries played a crucial part in the lack of a running game. Canales said in the postgame press conference:

"I would say that, um, that he certainly doesn't look like he's got that, that, you know, quick make-you-miss type of a deal, but he was able to create some space for himself. Um, but the rush got after us, you know, and, and that's the bottom line is we got to take care of that first part of it so we have an element of time to be able to execute the play."
