Jeremiah Smith passes Michael Jenkins as Ohio State's all-time receiving yards leader

It took just 32 games for Jeremiah Smith to become Ohio State's all-time leading receiver.

The star junior receiver broke Michael Jenkins' school record for receiving yards early in the No. 6 Buckeyes' game against Kent State. Smith entered the game with 179 catches for 2,873 yards and trailed Jenkins by just 25 yards.

He set the record on his second catch of the game.

Jenkins played three seasons at Ohio State, but it took him nine more games than Smith to accrue his total. The first-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft played for the Buckeyes from 2001-03.

Smith, meanwhile, can already claim to being the best wide receiver in Ohio State history just barely into his third season. Smith had 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 scores as a true freshman in 2024 as Ohio State bounced back from a loss to Michigan at the end of the regular season to win the College Football Playoff. A season ago, he played in three fewer games but had 87 catches for 1,243 yards and 12 scores.

Through the first two games of 2026, Smith had 16 catches for 315 yards and three scores. Smith had eight grabs for 164 yards and a TD in Ohio State's 24-23 loss to Texas in Week 2 and, along with Malachi Toney, is one of the few non-quarterback favorites to win the Heisman in December.
