Hansi Flick one La Liga title away from joining Pep Guardiola and Johan Cruyff in Barcelona history

Hansi Flick has already established himself as one of Barcelona's most successful modern managers, but the German now has the chance to achieve something that would place him in exceptionally rare company in the club's history.

Flick has begun his third season at Barcelona with a trophy record that speaks for itself.

Two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and a Copa del Rey have arrived during his first two campaigns, while his team's performances have earned him strong backing from everyone.

The challenge ahead is now even greater.

If Barcelona win La Liga again this season, Flick will become only the third manager in the club's more than 125-year history to lead the Blaugrana to three consecutive league titles.

More significantly, he would replicate a feat achieved by Pep Guardiola by winning the league in each of his first three seasons in charge.

This season, Barcelona have made a strong start to the campaign, with victories over Elche and Athletic Club providing an early indication that Flick's side is ready to defend their crown once again.

Winning three consecutive La Liga titles is a rare achievement at Barcelona.

Notably, Johan Cruyff was the first manager to put together such a run, leading the club to four straight league titles between 1991 and 1994.

His sequence remains one of the defining achievements in Barcelona's modern history.

Guardiola later matched that dominance in his own way, winning La Liga in three consecutive seasons from 2009 to 2011.

There is an important difference between the two records, as Cruyff needed time before delivering his first league title, while Guardiola won the competition in each of his first three seasons.

That is the milestone Flick can now target.

After lifting La Liga in his first two campaigns, another title in 2026/27 would see the German match Guardiola's remarkable record of three league triumphs in his first three seasons as Barcelona manager.

Seven Barcelona managers have fallen short

Flick has already matched a group of seven other Barcelona managers who won two consecutive league championships but were unable to complete the three-peat.

That list includes Frank Rijkaard, Ernesto Valverde, Luis Enrique, Louis van Gaal, Helenio Herrera, Fernando Daucik and Enrique Fernandez.

All of them reached the same point Flick has reached now: back-to-back La Liga success, although none managed to add a third consecutive title.

As such, Flick has brought a much-needed consistency to the club, with his trophy haul accompanied by a style of football that has impressed supporters.

Barcelona's success has also been driven by a squad containing several world-class players developed through La Masia , giving the manager a strong foundation on which to build.
