ESPN College GameDay returns for the 2026 college football season, kicking off with a highly anticipated matchup between #11 LSU and Clemson.

The Clemson Tigers' 2025 season did not unfold as expected. Head coach Dabo Swinney has already made that abundantly clear.

A supposedly national-championship-contending team started 1-3 and never recovered. Ranked fourth in the 2025 AP Preseason Poll, the Tigers finished with six losses, their most in a season since 2010.

But Saturday starts a new season for the Tigers, unranked in the preseason poll for the first time since 2011.

However, they'll open the season in a rowdy environment at LSU.

Last season, LSU also did not meet expectations, firing head coach Brian Kelly after a 5-3 start.

But it's been a busy offseason for new head coach Lane Kiffin, looking to establish LSU as a powerhouse once again.

Kiffin has brought in the top-ranked transfer portal class per 247Sports , signing three of the top seven transfers.

Former Arizona St quarterback Sam Leavitt is set to take over for Garrett Nussmeier, who was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Leavitt is recovering from a foot surgery that ended his season in October.

Leavitt had a standout freshman season and was the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, leading all FBS freshmen with 11 wins as starting quarterback.

On the other end of the field, Clemson will also begin with a new quarterback—albeit a significantly less experienced one.

Cade Klubnik was drafted by the New York Jets, opening up the quarterback battle for the top spot. Former 4-star recruit Christopher Vizzina won the battle and will make his second career start.

While Clemson will look to show last season was a one-off, there's something to be said about an inexperienced quarterback opening the season in one of the toughest college football environments.

There's certainly a ton of hype on this LSU squad with the Kiffin hiring and all of the transfers they've brought in. Tomorrow, at least for one day, they'll justify that hype, beginning the season with a dominant win over Clemson.
