Real Madrid new signing continues to strengthen claim to replace Vinicius in Mourinho’s XI

Yan Diomande 's international break has given Real Madrid another glimpse of the qualities that convinced the club to sign him, while simultaneously raising an increasingly difficult question for Jose Mourinho.

The 19-year-old has continued to impress with Ivory Coast , producing strong performances against both Somalia and Ghana .

Notably, his displays have inevitably brought the debate over Real Madrid's left wing back into focus, particularly with Vinicius Jr. struggling to reproduce his best form.

Both players prefer the same position. Their natural role is on the left side of the attack, although Diomande is capable of playing on the right as well.

That creates an intriguing situation for Mourinho, as Vinicius has been one of Real Madrid's most important players for several years but is struggling for form this season .

Diomande, meanwhile, is only beginning his career at the Santiago Bernabeu but is showing that he is not afraid to demand attention.

The question is therefore becoming harder to ignore: could Diomande eventually force Mourinho to rethink his first-choice left winger?

Diomande continues to impress with Ivory Coast

Diomande's latest performances have been particularly encouraging because they have shown different aspects of his game.

Against Somalia, the Real Madrid youngster completed five of the six dribbles he attempted, registered three shots and created three more shooting opportunities for his teammates.

He did not score or provide an assist, but that does not tell the full story of his performance.

Ivory Coast faced a deep defensive block, which can make life difficult for a winger who relies on space to attack. Diomande still found ways to influence the game.

When the wing was closed, he moved inside. When defenders gave him room, he attacked them directly.

His willingness to always be available for a pass and immediately try to create an advantage meant that his involvement improved Ivory Coast's attacking situations.

Certainly, the quality of the opposition should obviously be taken into consideration, as Somalia are not among the strongest sides Ivory Coast can face.

However, their defensive approach did create a different challenge for Diomande, who had to find solutions against a compact team rather than simply exploit large spaces, which is why his performance still deserves recognition.

More importantly for Real Madrid, Diomande showed the confidence to keep asking questions of the opposition.

Diomande produced a statement performance vs Ghana

Before the Somalia clash, the winger's performance against Ghana provided an even stronger indication of his development.

Even against a considerably more demanding opponent, the 19-year-old ran the show for long periods and produced numbers that highlighted his involvement.

Diomande completed seven dribbles, won 10 duels and created three chances. He also recorded 76 touches and completed 91% of his passes.

Simply put, there is efficiency behind the flair.

Ivory Coast deployed Diomande primarily from the right against Ghana rather than in his preferred position on the left, although the change of flank did little to restrict his influence.

He repeatedly drove at Ghana's defence and even produced an elastico during the second half, providing another example of the confidence he has shown throughout the international break.

Considering this development, it is here that the situation becomes particularly interesting for Vinicius.

There is no question about the Brazil ian's achievements. He has established himself as a world-class player through years of performances for Real Madrid and has played a central role in the club's biggest victories.

However, his current form has not reached those same heights.

Unfortunately, this season, the issue is not one poor performance , as Vinicius has struggled to produce the consistency that has previously made him so dangerous, and similar concerns have followed him with Brazil, making Diomande's emergence more noticeable.

The Ivorian does not appear to need an extended period of hesitation before trying to make things happen.

He receives the ball, attacks defenders and looks for ways to create an advantage, creating a very unfamiliar competition for Vinicius, something that he never encountered at the club.

Mourinho faces a difficult decision at Real Madrid

The debate should not be interpreted as proof that Diomande has already surpassed Vinicius.

For what it is worth, the Brazilian has a far greater body of work at the elite level and has earned the trust that comes with years of outstanding performances, but football moves and it moves quickly.

If Vinicius continues to struggle while Diomande maintains the level of confidence and effectiveness he has displayed with Ivory Coast, Mourinho could eventually face a difficult selection call.

The Real Madrid manager has the authority to make that decision, and one of the reasons his appointment generated so much interest was the expectation that he would not avoid uncomfortable choices.

For now, there is no indication that Vinicius is about to lose his starting position.

Diomande still has to translate his international form into regular club performances and adapt fully to the demands of Real Madrid.
