One Manchester United player reportedly 'challenged' Lisandro Martinez over his post-match comments last night, according to Sky Sports.
The defender went out all guns blazing in his interview at the Metropolitano, having directly called out Director of Football Jason Wilcox's lacklustre efforts in the transfer window.
Martinez expressed that he felt the squad , towards the back end of last season, built a strong base for the board to then build on over the summer.
"I expect more from our technical director (Jason Wilcox). We expect more from the top, from upstairs, to bring in more players to compete."
However, they opted to bring in only three outfield players and free agent goalkeeper Karl Darlow, before deciding to wrap up their transfer business altogether.
It has consequently left the full-back department significantly depleted – with 20-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven having to deputise in the role on Wednesday night due to injuries – as well as the attack.
Benjamin Sesko is the only out-and-out centre-forward at Michael Carrick's disposal, and he is now sidelined for an unspecified period with a re-aggravation of his shin problem.
Sky's report adds that Martinez's United 'future [is now] in doubt' in the aftermath of his outburst.
In addition, the 2022 World Cup winner is said to have 'pushed' to make a move to Atletico in the summer, where he would've played alongside compatriot and close friend Cristian Romero, who joined the Spanish outfit from Tottenham Hotspur.
Martinez, 28, is tied to United until June 2027, though the club have the option of extending his stay by an additional 12 months.
