The home side could have won by a greater margin, hitting the woodwork three times in the second half.

After Bonis fired over for the hosts, York's Jeff King struck the underside of the bar with a shot, the ball bouncing on the line before being cleared.

Louie Marsh threatened for Chesterfield towards the end of the first half, forcing Alfie McNally to get down to block.

Soon after the restart, McNally saw his clearance blocked by Josh Koroma and the ball fell to Markanday, who fired off target from the edge of the area.

Marsh then tried a curling shot which came back off a post before Chesterfield opened the scoring.

The breakthrough goal came in the 57th minute when George McEachran found Bonis who advanced into the area and fired past McNally.

Markanday and Bonis both hit the woodwork before Markanday struck in the seventh minute of added time, finding the net with a superb effort.
