Duke scores on 109-yard kick-6 in blowout win over NC State
Pellicciotta's play gave the Blue Devils a decisive 31-3 lead heading into the locker room.
On Saturday, Duke took another touchdown for the road before halftime, with safety Andrew Pellicciotta scoring an elusive "kick-6" to grow the Blue Devils' lead over NC State. A missed field goal led to Pellicciotta sprinting 109 yards from end zone to end zone as time expired in the first half.
After Wolfpack kicker Kanoah Vinesett's 50-yard attempt fell short with as time expired in the half, Pellicciotta was there to receive the ball deep in the end zone. The sophomore safety then sprinted downfield.
Pellicciotta juked several defenders to make the run, at one point running nearly lengthwise across the field to find space. And find space he did, making one last cut around the 30-yard line while his teammates cleared his path to the opposite end zone.
Pellicciotta's stunning cross-field run gave the Blue Devils a decisive 31-3 lead right before halftime, after Duke scored 24 points in the second quarter alone. It's a career-first touchdown for Pellicciotta, who had one interception last season after playing 12 games as a true freshman.
The Blue Devils went on to win 41-3 , a definitive victory that makes them at 4-2 in ACC play and 7-2 on the season.
The Wolfpack struggled in the loss, putting up 217 yards on offense (including just 32 on the ground) and failing to score after the first quarter despite several chances. NC State's tough performance comes two weeks after the school fired longtime head coach Dave Doeren in October.
