The fallout from Pat McAfee's comments about Utah on Saturday's episode of College GameDay has continued, with the University of Utah issuing an apology to the ESPN personality.

In a statement released on Monday, the school took "full accountability" for the social media video at the center of the discussion and noted university officials reached out to McAfee to "sincerely apologize" for the situation.

The situation began on Saturday with the ESPN pregame show broadcasting from Salt Lake City for the Houston-Utah matchup. During the final segment when the panelists make their picks, McAfee closed his remarks by saying to the crowd in attendance, "I'll never see you again, hopefully."

McAfee further addressed the situation on Monday's episode of his ESPN show by saying he felt "uncomfortable" about a social media video of Utah Students doing a McAfee impression that the university later posted on its official Instagram page (h/t The Athletic's Chris Vannini ).

"Did not enjoy University of Utah," McAfee said at the start of his show. "You know why I didn't like it mostly? Right before I go out there, I see the University of Utah's Instagram page. They put out, do an impression of Pat McAfee, and one kid goes, 'Ah, he's corny.' Another kid calls me creepy. If these kids would have done this on their own blogs, all good. Everybody's taking shots at me, anyways, for everything. I get it. If the two ladies that were hosting that put that out on their own blog, I'd be OK with it. You're allowed to do what you do.

"The university puts that out? Like as I'm about to go out and do an infomercial for the place? And then I'm walking in front of thousands of these people. This is how the university feels about it? It's an uncomfortable feeling."

The school later deleted the video from its account. Saturday marked the seventh time College GameDay has broadcast from Salt Lake City prior to a Utes home game. It was the first time since November 2025 for a Cincinnati-Utah matchup.

Utah defeated Houston 21-13 at Rice–Eccles Stadium on Saturday night to improve to 7-0 this season.
