How long had it been since Auburn football won an SEC home game?

AUBURN — It definitely felt like it'd been a long while, but with Auburn football beating Vanderbilt , the program saw one of its ugliest losing streaks come to an end.

The result marked head coach Alex Golesh 's first SEC victory, yes, but the last time the Tigers had beaten a league opponent at home?

It'd been nearly two years. One year, 10 months and three days, to be exact. Before taking care of the Commodores in a 21-15 result Saturday, Sept. 26, Auburn 's last SEC win at Jordan-Hare Stadium came Nov. 23, 2024, when it beat a ranked Texas A&M team in a four-overtime thriller.

"I don't know if I look at it quite big picture like that," Golesh said postgame in reference to the topic. "It was really, really good to beat a good football team. It was good to win in the SEC, it was good to win at home. ... I can't control what happened before I got here. I can only control what we do now; right here, right now."

That losing streak was seemingly a credit, rather a discredit, to Golesh's predecessor, Hugh Freeze. In all, Auburn went 3-11 in SEC home games with Freeze at the helm; one of many garishly disappointing feathers in Freeze's cap.

Auburn went 6-16 against the league and 9-11 at home under Freeze, but with Saturday's victory, Golesh finds himself separated from Freeze in one standpoint.

Of Auburn's last 10 head coaches, seven won their first SEC game. Two others got their first league victory on the second try, but Freeze was the only exception of that stretch, needing five league games to find a win.

The two Auburn coaches who didn't get an league victory until their second try? Golesh and Pat Dye.
