OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL: Kamil Grabara suffers ACL tear in training

We really just can't have nice things anymore, can we?

Juventus confirmed on their web site that goalkeeper Kamil Grabara suffered a torn ACL during Saturday's training session. This comes barely two days after Grabara made his debut for the club against NEC Nijmegen in the Europa League on Thursday.

It was a successful debut, at that. The Polish keeper made every save he had to make and even notched an out-of-the-blue assist when his opposite number, Nikolas Polster , completely whiffed at a long ball he had aimed at Nico González, allowing the Argentine to score with minimal effort.

It's an inopportune time to lose Grabara, as the two-game-a-week slate will demand a lot of the club once the game returns from the international break. It's also worth noting that Guglielmo Vicario , who Grabara was backing up, is by no means a sure thing in goal after going through a horrific season last year at Tottenham Hotspur and, frankly, could go into the tank at a moment's notice.

The way forward for Grabara isn't 100 percent certain. The club's statement gave no indication of the severity of the tear, only that his course of treatment and timetable would be ascertained after consulting with specialists. Given the nature of ACLs, it's almost certain we won't see him for at least six months, perhaps longer.

How Luciano Spalletti deals with things will also now be interesting to gauge. The injury bumps cheerleader-in-chief Carlo Pinsoglio into the No. 2 spot behind Vicario for now, but how things go behind him is going to be a question. The starter at the NextGen, Riccardo Radu, could see some callups, and there are a couple of free agent keepers floating around who could be brought up in a pinch, but those pickings are slim.

The list is probably topped by Alessio Cragno , who was once one of the country's up-and-coming keepers at Cagliari but, at 32, is recovering from an Achilles injury and has spent the last two seasons attached to Serie B sides. Salvatore Sirigu is 39 and has been without a club for the last year, and his long tenure with Torino may see him less willing to come to the other side of Turin. Daniele Padelli , 40, was Udinese 's third keeper last year and hasn't seen the field since the 2024-25 season.

Given the bare bones of that group, it's possible Juve simply stands pat with Pinsoglio and whoever gets the call from the NextGen until January, where they could make a move depending on just how long Grabara will be out. Frankly, I'd absolutely adore seeing some real, honest-to-goodness Pinso Time in a Coppa match or something. That said, this is a big blow for Grabara personally and for Juve's depth at one of the few positions they didn't already have depth problems at. Here's hoping for his quick recovery.
