Studs and duds from Commanders' big win over Eagles
The Commanders took down the Eagles on Sunday night, so let's see who impressed and who didn't.
The Washington Commanders had the chance to host Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8.
This was a crucial matchup for the Commanders as they entered this week with just one win. The NFC East is still wide open, though, so every win matters. Well, luckily, the Commanders were able to get that elusive second win of the season.
The Eagles won the first quarter, scoring 10 points, but that was the only offense the team could generate. The Commanders would end up winning 27-10, and there were plenty of solid performances on both sides of the ball. Now, let's identify our biggest studs and duds.
Entering this game, it seemed like the Commanders should be able to run the ball . The Eagles have given up a ton of yardage on the ground this season, so this seemed like the perfect get-right game.
Rachaad White delivered, rushing for 55 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries. White had the game-sealing run in the fourth quarter and then punched it in for his first rushing score of the season. The free agent addition delivered when it mattered.
Chig Okonkwo played a big role the last time the Commanders were on the field. With Terry McLaurin out, it really seemed like Okonkwo would get a ton of targets going forward.
Well, against the Eagles, Okonkwo didn't have his finest moment. The veteran caught two passes for 32 yards on four targets, and also lost a fumble. The Commanders will need more from Okonkwo going forward. Most will forget his overall lack of production, though as he made a spectacular one-handed grab in the third quarter.
Treylon Burks is another player who should get more opportunities with McLaurin out. The former first-round pick made the most of his chances on Sunday, leading the team with 81 receiving yards.
Burks had three catches, including a 53-yarder, and showed that he can be a reliable option for Jayden Daniels.
Next up, the entire defensive front needs to be shouted out. The Commanders racked up five sacks, eight tackles for loss, and nine quarterback hits. The unit dominated the banged-up Eagles' offensive line and showed what it can be on a good day.
Dorance Armstrong, Shy Tuttle, K'Lavon Chaisson, Charles Omenihu, and Odafe Oweh each recorded a sack. And they did this without starters Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw.
We mentioned Rachaad White having the game-sealing play on offense; well, Rasul Douglas had the game-sealing play on defense. The Eagles were trailing 19-10 and were technically still alive when Tanner McKee threw a deep pass intended for Darius Cooper.
Rasul Douglas came up with the interception, and then White busted off his long run. It was a nice play for Douglas in an otherwise inconsistent season.
