Joel Klatt blasts CFP committee after latest rankings
Joel Klatt calls out the CFP committee's treatment of an unbeaten team after a statement road win.
No. 8 UCLA Bruins entered Saturday's road trip to Minnesota Golden Gophers still searching for the respect their record suggested they deserved. The Bruins came in ranked No. 8 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, released the previous Tuesday, despite sitting unbeaten while five teams with at least one loss sat ahead of them.
UCLA answered with its most complete performance in weeks, breaking open a tight game behind two second-half touchdowns. As the Bruins ran out the clock, Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt used the broadcast to make his feelings about the committee's rankings clear.
Joel Klatt says CFP committee hasn't watched enough football
"Let's hope the committee watched this game," Klatt said on the "Big Noon" broadcast. "I don't think the committee has watched a ton of football based on the rankings they gave us on Tuesday night. This team should definitely move up."
Klatt added that UCLA deserves "to be much higher" than its current position.
UCLA beat Minnesota 34-20, improving to 9-0 for the first time since 1998. Quarterback Ty Dieffenbach threw for 303 yards on just eight completions, including back-to-back 75-yard touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Why UCLA's ranking has drawn criticism beyond Joel Klatt
UCLA was ranked behind two-loss Alabama and Texas in the committee's first rankings, along with Miami and Utah, the only two other unbeaten teams in the country.
Klatt also criticized the committee earlier in the week on "The Joel Klatt Show," accusing it of showing bias toward the SEC in its initial rankings.
The committee releases its next rankings Tuesday, giving UCLA's performance a chance to factor into an updated position.
