49ers’ Fred Warner says team unbothered by Jed York’s embarrassing arrest

San Francisco 49ers ' owner Jed York was arrested over the weekend. While you might think a team owner being arrested in a trailer park prostitution bust would be a distraction, the 49ers say it is not. Coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that since York has been away from training camp, it hasn't really come up.

"From a football standpoint, it has no effect on us," Shanahan said . "As far as what we do day-to-day, what we talk about. It hasn't been mentioned in a meeting today, it doesn't have to do with what happens on the field. Everything outside of there, I think you guys can judge that better than me."

"We're all aware, we all have social media so we see things," Warner said. "But at the same time, I've got a lot of love, a lot of respect for Jed, and don't feel the need to comment on the situation. I think the team was kind of the same way. It really wasn't a conversation being had in the locker room. Of course, yeah, you notice it, but we're so hyper-focused in this building on trying to prepare for Week 1. A lot of guys are on the bubble, trying to make the team. We're just trying to get better as a football team, and letting that personal situation, let it stay personal with him."

It seems unlikely that the players wouldn't have talked about this situation at all, but it makes perfect sense that they're closing ranks around their owner. If it were a player or coach involved in a similar situation, they would probably handle it the same way. The fact that they're addressing it directly and saying they aren't talking about it is likely the best PR strategy available in this situation. And really what affect would this have on the team beyond it being a topic of quiet conversation?

Warner signed a three-year extension with the 49ers ahead of last season.
