Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix threw for 107 yards on four yards per attempt, while Denver punted on six straight drives in the second half. But Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold tossed a back-breaking interception in overtime, allowing the Broncos to escape with a 17-14 win on Thursday Night Football .

Denver's defense may have bailed Nix out, but Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't let him off the hook during Prime Video's postgame broadcast.

"I'm glad they scored the two touchdowns in the first half, but they were in four-minute mode when the second half started," Fitzpatrick said. "It was really frustrating to watch. And part of it, for me, is Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It's almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he's playing football right now."

Fitzpatrick elaborated on exactly why he's so disgusted, saying, "First of all, the guy doesn't want to throw the ball. That's fine. He's throwing to the flats, he's throwing behind, but he has no trust from his coach."

"In overtime, he's got two chances to be competitive," Fitzpatrick said. "The last one being a designed run for him to run, make somebody miss, and get a first down for your football team! Now, they're in the locker room right now. They're excited. They won. He's not playing competitive football right now."

Fitzpatrick wasn't alone in his criticisms of Nix, as Tony Gonzalez jumped in to note that "the only thing that's protecting him, obviously, is the wins" and Denver's dominant defense.

"Offensively right now, it is anemic," Gonzalez said. "If I'm a Denver Bronco fan, I'm looking at this going, hey, if this keeps up, maybe even a good benching. I'm just saying. To get your attention, to put [Jarrett] Stidham in there or something, because right now, offensively, you cannot be happy about this."

Earlier this week, Nix addressed the mounting criticism over his poor play to start the 2026 NFL season.

"Playing good and playing bad, it's a narrative, and I think it's honestly kind of something we make up," Nix told reporters . "I don't think necessarily I'm playing any different than what I'm normally playing."

Dating back to last season, the prevailing narrative about Nix has been that the Broncos' defense is carrying him, and both the eye test and statistics objectively back that up. Yet, much to the talking heads' chagrin, Nix and the Broncos sit at 4-2.

Denver will visit the Arizona Cardinals (1-4) in Week 7.
