Steve Sarkisian Says 'Nobody Believed' Texas Would Beat Missouri After Arch Manning's 3-TD Game
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian claimed that there wasn't much belief in the No. 7 Longhorns before they secured a 34-20 win over No. 18 Missouri on Saturday.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian claimed that there wasn't much belief in the No. 7 Longhorns before they secured a 34-20 win over No. 18 Missouri on Saturday.
"Our guys, they're not naive to noise," Sarkisian said after the game, per On3.com's Jonathan Wagner . "For as much as I would love to say they tune it all out, and we try our best to do that, I could hear the talk getting on the plane yesterday. I could hear the talk when we got here. Nobody believed we'd win the game. Nobody thought we were going to come here and win the game, nobody thought we were tough enough at the line of scrimmage. Everybody thought we'd get pushed around."
It's worth noting that Texas was favored to win the game, according to FanDuel Sportsbook .
The Longhorns were ultimately able to improve to 7-2 as quarterback Arch Manning racked up three touchdown passes against the Tigers.
Manning finished 28-of-38 for 297 yards to go along with his three scores.
The SEC matchup was a hard-fought battle. The game was tied 10-10 at halftime and 20-20 through three quarters. Neither team held a two-score lead at any point until the fourth.
After a pair of early Missouri punts to start the final frame, Texas gained a 27-20 advantage once Manning connected with Raleek Brown for a 23-yard touchdown.
The Longhorns' defense kept Missouri off the board immediately afterwards before Sarkisian's squad took a 14-point lead with an eight-yard touchdown run by Brown.
The Tigers turned the ball over on downs during their ensuing possession, leading to Texas running out the clock and sealing the final result.
While the Longhorns' victory may not have been a major shock, it was still an impressive performance against a Missouri team that owned a perfect 4-0 home record prior to Saturday's action.
Texas finished with 401 total yards while limiting the Tigers to just 10 points over the final three quarters of the game.
The Longhorns will now look to secure their fourth consecutive win when they face LSU on Nov. 14.
