Penn State RB's Father Apologizes to Rocco Becht For Saying He's 'Just Not Good' in Viral Posts

Quinton Martin Sr., the father of Penn State running back Quinton Martin Jr., has apologized to Nittany Lions quarterback Rocco Becht for his harsh criticism amid the signal-caller and team's struggles.

In since-deleted posts on X, Martin had this to say about Becht, who followed former Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell from ISU to PSU this year. He also expressed disappointment in his son's lack of playing time.

"This kid is just not good, 5 yrs in college and he tries to throw to the far hash, he doesn't have the arm strength, the height(why a lot of his throws get batted down at the line)and sad to say doesn't have the IQ. He just isn't it. Oh and BTW my son only got 2 carries yesterday…"

The Nittany Lions started the season 3-0 against non-conference opponents, but they've since gone 0-4 in Big Ten play. They've averaged 18.5 points per game, the third-lowest mark in the 18-team conference.

Becht has struggled in Big Ten play, throwing five interceptions vs. three touchdowns while completing 59.6 percent of his passes for 913 yards.

Last Saturday, Becht threw a pair of interceptions and lost a fumble, and Michigan scored a touchdown in response to each turnover.

Campbell has since told reporters that the team has "complete faith" in Becht and won't be making a change. Redshirt freshman Alex Manske, who also transferred from Iowa State, is the backup.

As far as the running game goes, former Iowa State RB Carson Hansen are the top backs. Hansen has rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns on 37 carries (2.9 YPC) in Big Ten action and is the team's leading rusher overall (278 yards). Peoples has amassed 159 yards and two scores on 37 attempts (4.3 YPC). Martin has 22 yards on 11 carries in Big Ten play, though he excelled against Buffalo (100 yards on 10 attempts).

Penn State has a bye week before returning home to face Purdue on Halloween.
