The rivalry between Utah and BYU isn't just a football game. It's a war — a Holy War, to be exact.

This year, the ramifications of that Biblical clash are larger than they've ever been.

In one of the most anticipated games of a loaded Week 10 slate of the 2026 college football season, No. 4 Utah will put its undefeated record on the line when it hosts No. 8 BYU on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

It's a matchup between two of the top three teams in the Big 12 standings, meaning the winner of Saturday's game will have an inside track at a spot in the Big 12 championship game and an automatic berth to the College Football Playoff .

The Utes ' transition from longtime coach Kyle Whittingham to current head coach and former coach-in-waiting Morgan Scalley has gone as smoothly as it realistically could have. Heading into the Holy War, Utah is 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big 12, thanks in part to the nation's No. 11 scoring offense and No. 15 scoring defense. It's one of only two teams, along with Notre Dame and Georgia, who is in the top 15 in both categories. Quarterback Devon Dampier has been the catalyst behind the team's offense, with 2,269 total yards and 23 touchdowns this season.

They'll get what should be their stiffest test of the regular season against a BYU team that's 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big 12, with a home win over then-No. 2 Notre Dame on Oct. 17 standing as a signature victory. The Cougars are tied for 25th nationally in scoring defense, giving up 18.8 points per game. If it means anything, they've got recent history on their side, too, with three consecutive Holy War wins on their resume, including a 24-21 triumph last year in Provo, Utah.
