Gary Neville slams Man Utd players for downing tools and turning on Michael Carrick after Bournemouth defeat
Gary Neville on Man Utd's players: "A few of them aren't that professional. There's a few of them that don't go to bed at the right time, don't eat the right things, and aren't living and breathing this football club as they should be - and as professionals should."
The embarrassing defeat at Old Trafford extended Manchester United's winless run to eight games in all competitions, leaving Michael Carrick's future as head coach in serious doubt .
Neville fears Carrick is facing the sack and, speaking on his podcast, the Sky Sports pundit turned his ire towards the club's under-performing players, accusing them of a lack of professionalism.
"It was a shocker today, a nothing of a performance," he said.
"Nothing against Tottenham here, nothing against Como, nothing against Atletico Madrid. A little bit against Leeds, it was a bit of a fight, but nothing against Fulham. That was a waste of time.
"So, this is a pattern of nothings, of players switching off and downing tools."
Bruno Fernandes was an unused substitute after his public criticism of Carrick's tactics against Como, while Lisandro Martinez, who spoke out against the club's hierarchy after the Atletico Madrid game, only featured as a second-half substitute.
"Michael Carrick is a brilliant man," added Neville.
"He's a man of integrity, of credibility, of decency, of professionalism, of high-quality football and consistency and reliability. Everything the group of players in that dressing room aren't.
"And he's going to suffer for it because he's not been able to deliver. It's been too much for him in these last few months.
"He's not been able to get a tune out of them and they've turned on him.
"I know that because if Bruno has turned on him publicly, with that little statement, imagine what they're like behind the scenes.
"If that's your captain saying that, imagine what they're saying in the dressing room behind closed doors when no one's listening. That's horrific.
"A few of them aren't that professional. I live in Manchester. Some of them aren't that professional. So I've got no time for them.
"There's a few of them that don't go to bed at the right time, don't eat the right things, don't think about Manchester United every single minute of every day, and aren't living and breathing this football club as they should be - and as professionals should.
"Why? Because it's gone to their heads. They are nothing, some of those players."
Neville hopes Carrick doesn't bear the full brunt of United's recent struggles and fears they could go another decade without a Premier League title unless there are changes at the top of the club.
"It's 14 years now without a Premier League title," he said.
"That will be another five or 10 before you know it because there are other clubs set up for success and Manchester United aren't.
"They are making poor decisions. From a business perspective, this is really damaging.
"It can't just be the manager again. There has got to be consequences above that. You can't keep letting the people pick the manager who keep getting it wrong."
