Tyrese Shade netted his Portsmouth goal with a lovely bending finish to put the hosts in front, but the Potters turned a tame first half around to make it five away wins in a row.

McGlynn capitalised on goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid's failure to hold on to a cross before Wilmot headed home a rebound.

The match was only two minutes old when referee Ben Speedie paused the action after Stoke wing-back Junior Tchamadeu reported a comment made to him from the stands while he prepared to take a throw-in.

Pompey had scored two stoppage-time goals to beat Swansea at Fratton Park on Tuesday night and almost immediately continued in the same manner.

A short corner routine in the sixth minute appeared to have been wasted when Terry Devlin was closed down on the edge of the area.

But the ball ricocheted off Tchamadeu and into the path of Shade, who had taken the initial corner, and the forward curled a shot past Viktor Johansson for his first Pompey goal.

Stoke offered very little in the first half and an off-target header from Wilmot in the 21st minute was their only attempt before the break.

At the other end, Portsmouth kept the visiting defence on their toes and threatened a second goal.

Centre-back Regan Poole followed a pass from deep and ended up with a shooting opportunity, but the angle was against him and Johansson easily blocked the effort.

Marlon Pack almost picked out the top corner from 30 yards and Odin Bailey's 50-yard run ended up with a stinging drive at Johansson.

Stoke's second shot of the match, their first on target, levelled the scores and sparked the turnaround.

Schmid allowed Ben Johnson's low cross to squirm away from him and Luca Bombino kept the ball in play and squared for McGlynn to thump in.

It was the American's seventh goal involvement in his nine league starts.

Bailey bounced a shot into the ground and over shortly after, but the Potters continued to improve, albeit without testing Schmid again until the 77 minute.

Jack Galbraith had time on the edge of the box to size up a shot and powered it towards the bottom corner.

Schmid saved but pushed the ball back out into the middle of his area, where Wilmot was following up and nodded in his third goal of the season.

Pompey could not create another chance as they faded to bring their six-match unbeaten run to an end.

"I'm really disappointed we lost the game. The contrast in the halves was stark.

"We played very well in the first half and deserved the lead, but we didn't put the game to bed when we could have done.

"The second half was completely different. We started poorly, the details across the team was poor and we got what we deserved.

"We didn't cope with the Stoke equaliser particularly well.

"All of a sudden, the things we were doing with good quality and good detail in the first half, we didn't do in the second.

"Across the board we made too many mistakes. Naturally the goalkeeper will be disappointed, but all the boys should look at themselves and see what we can do better to improve.

"If we had been torn apart by a team that has just gone top of the league and there was nothing we could do, then fine. But that wasn't the case today. Stoke deserved to win in the end, but it was for our undoing."

"That is the first time we have won five on the bounce away from home since 1947. That just shows what an achievement it is.

"The players need to take stock of that and be proud of it. We can go into the international break satisfied and it gives us a lot to be proud of going forward.

"They were on a really good run of form so it doesn't help when you don't start. We weren't us in the first half and we gave them a lead.

"To come back from that and perform like we did in the second half to get the two goals and win was really pleasing.

"At half time I told us to be more us. Second half we were more us and that is one of the most pleasing things from today.

"The connection with the supporters is good at the moment, but we know our end of the bargain. We have to keep it up and keep playing."
