Indiana Trolled by CFB Fans for Weak Non-Conference Schedule After Canceling 2027 UMass Game
Indiana football may be the defending national champions, but that hasn't stopped them from receiving criticism for their relatively weak schedule.
Indiana football may be the defending national champions, but that hasn't stopped them from receiving criticism for their relatively weak schedule.
The Hoosiers were under even more fire on Tuesday after cancelling their 2027 matchup with UMass and instead scheduling Jacksonville State.
Earlier this week, former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said the Hoosiers' three wins over non-Power 4 teams shouldn't count.
"Indiana's 2-0 to me," Meyer said on The Triple Option podcast. "I don't watch the highlights. I don't care. I look at Ohio State's close loss to Texas as a much better performance than playing Howard. Why would you look at that? I don't think it should count."
After the announcement on Tuesday, some fans suspected that Indiana called off the game following UMass' 4-1 start to the season that includes a win over Rutgers.
To be fair to Indiana, plenty of college football fans and analysts criticized its schedule last year, and the Hoosiers went on to prove that they were the best team in the country.
With a relatively easy schedule again this year, Indiana will once again look to prove its doubters wrong.
