Stats: Raphinha has turned penalties into a near-guaranteed goal for Barcelona

Raphinha has developed into one of Barcelona 's most reliable players from the penalty spot, and his record explains why he continues to be trusted when the pressure is highest.

As per Mundo Deportivo , the Brazilian has taken 22 penalties during his career and missed only once. That solitary failure came back in 2017, when he was playing for Vitoria Guimaraes.

His record since arriving at Barcelona is even cleaner: 13 penalties, 13 goals.

The two he converted against Racing Santander were particularly interesting because they broke a pattern he had followed for most of his time in Spain.

Raphinha rarely gives goalkeepers the same answer

Raphinha, currently negotiating his Barcelona renewal , has generally avoided going to the same side twice with Barcelona. His first penalty for the club came against Real Sociedad in the 2023/24 season, when he sent the ball low to the goalkeeper's right.

From there, he began alternating, although there was one obvious interruption: the Panenka against Sevilla.

Otherwise, the pattern was remarkably consistent. Raphinha would stay relatively close to the ball, keep his run-up compact and strike low and firmly towards the corner.

Against Racing, however, after converting his first penalty by going right, he went the same way again with his second.

Interestingly, Racing goalkeeper Julien Agirrezabala guessed incorrectly on both occasions, leaving Raphinha's spotless Barcelona penalty record intact.

Only Lewandowski has taken more for Barça

Raphinha is not Barcelona's most frequent penalty taker since his arrival, as that honour belongs to Robert Lewandowski, who has taken 19 and scored 16.

Raphinha is next with 13 from 13, followed by Lamine Yamal with seven from nine. Dani Olmo has also converted both of his attempts.

Ferran Torres has missed once, while Pedri , Ansu Fati , Franck Kessie and Ilkay Gundogan have each scored from the spot, with the latter also missing another.

The numbers certainly explain Raphinha's importance, but his consistency is what separates him. Goalkeepers can study his previous attempts, look for patterns and try to anticipate the decision.

However, Raphinha has made that job harder.
