Two-time Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo named VDHM International Event Ambassador

NEW DELHI: Two-time Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo has been named the International Event Ambassador for the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon (VDHM), promoted by Procam International. The 21st edition of the prestigious road race will be held on Oct 18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium here.The Bahamian sprinting star is among the most accomplished athletes of her generation. She created history by winning Olympic gold in the women’s 400m at both the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games. Her successful title defence in Tokyo made her only the second woman, after France’s Marie-José Perec, to win consecutive Olympic 400m titles. Her winning time of 48.36 seconds remains a North American record.Miller-Uibo has enjoyed sustained success at the World Athletics Championships. After winning silver medals in the 400m in 2015 and 2019 and a bronze in the 200m in 2017, she finally claimed the 400m world title in Eugene in 2022. Her 200m personal best of 21.74 seconds is also a Bahamian national record. She has additionally won Commonwealth Games gold in the 200m and a mixed 4x400m relay gold for The Bahamas at the World Athletics Relays.Reflecting on her upcoming India visit, Miller-Uibo said she was excited to experience New Delhi and participate in a race with a strong connection to its community. She said the marathon brings together people from different backgrounds and abilities through the shared joy of running.“Progress is built one step at a time,” Miller-Uibo said, adding that she hoped her journey would encourage runners to trust their process, remain consistent and believe in what they can achieve.Beyond athletics, Miller-Uibo has been involved in charitable and community initiatives in The Bahamas, particularly those supporting children and young people.Procam International Joint Managing Director Vivek Singh said Miller-Uibo’s career demonstrated patience and persistence.
