Chicago Marathon 2026: Kenya's Amos Kipruto wins, Ethiopia's Hawi Feysa Gejia repeats; Clayton Young finishes as top American
Amos Kipruto finally made it atop the Chicago podium, while Hawi Feysa Gejia repeated as champion.
Amos Kipruto won the 2026 Chicago Marathon on Sunday, one year after coming in second and two years after finishing third. He finished with a time of 2:01:09, well clear of second-place finisher Tadese Bikila from Ethiopia (2:02:56).
Kipruto, who hails from Kenya, finished fourth in the London Marathon earlier this year with a time of 2:01:39.
Ethiopia's Hawi Feysa Gejia won the women's race at 2:13:33, just under a minute ahead of Kenya's Sharon Lokedi, for her second straight Chicago victory.
Clayton Young, who raced with a torn hamstring, finished as the top American male runner (seventh overall) with a time of 2:05:23, followed close behind by fellow Americans Charles Hicks and Vincent Mauri, who has gained popularity for training on a treadmill at a public gym . Mauri led the American group for a good portion of the race, but appeared to cramp up late and lost his lead.
Top American women's finisher Emma Grace Hurley set a record for the fastest debut marathon for a U.S. woman with a time of 2:20:47. She finished seventh overall and was the only American woman among the top 10 finishers.
Swiss wheelchair racer Catherine Debrunner won and broke her own world record, while her countryman Marcel Hug set a new course record with his fifth straight win.
