Olympic Torch to Visit All 50 States for 1st Time Ahead of 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games

To celebrate the Summer Games returning to the United States for the first time since 1996, the Olympic Torch is going to make its way around the country leading up to the 2028 event in Los Angeles.

It was announced on Tuesday the Olympic Torch will visit all 50 states for the first time ever starting in Atlanta, the host city the last time the Summer Games were held in the U.S.

No start date for the Olympic Torch relay has been announced at this point. The 2024 relay began on April 16 leading up to the start of the Games on July 26 in Paris, France.

The last time an Olympics was held in the United States was the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City. That year saw the Olympic Torch pass through more than 300 villages and towns across 46 states.

Per The Athletic's Rebecca Tauber , the 2028 Relay will mark the first time the Olympic Torch passes through Hawaii, North Dakota and South Dakota.

The 2028 Games will run from July 14-30 at locations across the Los Angeles area, including SoFi Stadium, the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, Dodger Stadium and Rose Bowl.
