Ethiopia's Hawi Feysa Gejia won the women's race with a time of 2:13:33, which was less than a minute better than Kenya's Sharon Lokedi. Lokedi finished in second place with a time of 2:14:07.
It was Feysa's second straight year as the champion.
On the men's side, Kenya's Amos Kipruto crossed the finish line first with a time of 2:01:09. It was nearly two minutes better than Ethiopia's Tadese Bikila, who finished in second place with a time of 2:02:56.
It was quite the breakthrough for Kipruto, who finished in second place in the 2025 Chicago Marathon and in third place in the 2024 edition.
There was no shortage of drama on the men's side, as Alex Dvorak of NBC Chicago noted Kipruto was "battling neck and neck with last year's champion Jacob Kiplimo." However, Kipruto eventually pulled ahead and created impressive separation.
"I was here to fight for the podium," Kipruto said after the finish, per Dvorak. "Everything is all about that mindset … I set my mind on it."
As for Feysa, NBC Chicago noted she "broke away from the competition" with just minutes remaining until the finish line. She also ran the marathon more than a minute faster than last year's victorious time of 2:14:57.
"Thank you so much," she said via her interpreter, per NBC Chicago. "After winning this year, to come back, I just want to thank God. I'm elated to have my second time."
