‘Specializes in Being Hurt’ — Former NFL LB Gets Brutally Honest About Joe Burrow’s Concerning Injury Status

Joe Burrow helped the Cincinnati Bengals open the 2026 season with a 33-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , but his latest injury update has already raised concerns. Back tightness limited Burrow's participation in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, the Bengals quarterback has made it clear he plans to play Sunday against the Houston Texans . He even called the idea of sitting out "ridiculous." Still, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho wasn't surprised to see Burrow dealing with another injury so early in the season.

Emmanuel Acho Questions Joe Burrow's Durability After Week 1

Speaking on "Speakeasy", Emmanuel Acho pointed to Joe Burrow's long injury history and questioned why the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback keeps dealing with physical issues.

"Of all the things I've never been surprised by in my life, I've never been surprised by this one first. Of course he's hurt. That's what Joe Burrow does. Specializes in being hurt. He's a killer on the field. One of the most talented quarterbacks in all of football… But of course, he's hurt," Acho said.

Burrow has already dealt with several major injuries during his NFL career. He tore the ACL, MCL, PCL, and meniscus in his left knee during his rookie season in 2020.

He later suffered a torn ligament in his throwing wrist in 2023 before dealing with a Grade 3 turf toe injury in 2025. Acho's biggest concern is that Burrow is already dealing with back tightness after just one game of the new season.

"Wildly disappointing. We're already dealing with back tightness. Bro, it's not like you balled out that crazy Week 1. Let the defense's back be tight. If anybody's back should be tight, let it be them, not you," Acho said.

Burrow did throw for 254 yards and a touchdown in the win over Tampa Bay , but he also threw a pick-six. Tampa Bay held Ja'Marr Chase to just two catches, leaving Cincinnati's passing game with plenty of room to improve.

Burrow has said the back tightness will not keep him from playing against Houston, but the matchup could test him physically.

The Texans have a strong defensive front, meaning Burrow will need to move comfortably in the pocket and avoid taking unnecessary hits. Cincinnati's offensive line will also have an important role in keeping pressure off its quarterback.

For now, Burrow says he will play. But after another early injury concern, his health remains one of the biggest storylines surrounding the Bengals.
