The New York Giants traded for J.J. McCarthy after Jaxson Dart went down with a season-ending injury, and the young quarterback has impressed under center so far.
But the Giants may have a problem on their hands, with two 23-year-old former first-round draft picks in their quarterback room. General manager Joe Schoen isn't concerned about a potential predicament.
"To have two young guys with Jaxson and J.J., both talented players, it's a good position to be in," Schoen told reporters . "It's a good position to be in."
As it stands now, Dart is more than likely still seen as the franchise quarterback. He had a strong rookie year in 2025, throwing for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 487 yards and nine touchdowns.
McCarthy has had a rough start to his career, but appears to be turning a corner in New York. In his Giants debut against the New Orleans Saints, he threw for 243 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter alone. Last week against the Houston Texans, he had 252 passing yards in an overtime win.
If McCarthy keeps playing at a high level, he could end up being a valuable trade asset for the Giants when Dart is back on the field next year. Until then, he'll look to keep proving that he's capable of being a starting quarterback.
