The Washington Commanders had a disastrous ending to Sunday's game against the New York Giants, tying in overtime after failing to get a snap off before time expired.

Jayden Daniels took a sack on the previous play, but head coach Dan Quinn said the time mismanagement is on him.

"The sequence of that does not fall on him," Quinn told reporters . "It's an out-of-bounds throw or a 'clock'. That has to come from me."

The Commanders were in field goal range with about 10 seconds to play, but Daniels taking a sack meant the clock didn't stop. Washington tried to get back to the line of scrimmage to snap the ball and set up a field goal, but couldn't get it off in time.

While Quinn took the blame for the miscue, Daniels told reporters that it was on him as well.

"We've just got to communicate that, that's the whole thing," Daniels said when asked if he knew the Commanders were out of timeouts before the final play. "It starts with me, communicating to the whole offense in the huddle. And I think everybody will say that from the top down."

Daniels is right in that everyone involved needed to be better on the final drive. The offensive line could have prevented the sack, while Daniels could have gotten the ball out quicker to give his team a better chance to get a play off.

As for Quinn and the coaching staff, late-game situations like the one on Sunday perhaps should be more of a point of emphasis in practice in the coming weeks.

The Commanders had the chance to improve to 2-3 and start to turn the corner in Daniels' first game back from injury, but they instead dropped to 1-3-1 as their rough start to the season continues.
