The Commander-in-Chief's propensity to attend sporting events almost resulted in his presence at another NFL game. But it ultimately didn't.

On Tuesday, Kristen Holmes of CNN reported that President Trump was expected to attend the Week 6 game between the Steelers and Buccaneers in Tampa. Later in the day, she reported that Trump would not be making the trip .

It would have been the third NFL game attended by Trump during his current term. He was present for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans between the Chiefs and Eagles. Last year, he attended a Lions-Commanders game in Maryland, making him the first sitting president to attend a regular-season game in nearly 50 years.

Two years ago, in the weeks preceding the election that resulted in his second term, Trump attended a Sunday night game between the Jets and Steelers.

It remains to be seen whether he shows up for an NFL game before the midterm elections, which happen in 20 days. The Commanders are currently scheduled to host the Eagles on Sunday, November 1 — two days before the in-person polls officially open.
