RB D'Andre Swift becomes latest key Bears player to earn a big extension

The Chicago Bears have locked up another key player long term.

The Bears and running back D'Andre Swift have agreed to a three-year extension worth $33.75 million, which includes $27.5 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Swift, 27, was a critical offensive piece for head coach Ben Johnson and the Bears, who went 11-6 and won the NFC North last season. He rushed for 1,087 yards and nine TDs last season and caught 34 passes for 299 yards and another score.

Swift and Johnson first worked together with the Detroit Lions , who drafted Swift in Round 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Eagles in 2023 and then signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Bears in March 2024. His contract had been scheduled to expire following the 2026 season prior to signing the new extension.

The Bears have been busy this offseason restructuring contracts and taking care of some of their own key players long term.

After reworking the deals of Jonah Jackson and Cole Kmet in April, creating more than $10 million in salary-cap space, the Bears extended right tackle Darnell Wright in August, making him the highest-paid right tackle by average annual value with a four-year, $116 million extension through 2031 that included about $93 million in guaranteed money.

The Bears also recently created more cap room by restructuring the deals of Joe Thuney , Dayo Odeyingbo and T.J. Edwards , freeing up about $17 million for the 2026 books. That allowed the Bears to get under the cap, and it gave them enough room to extend Swift prior to the start of the regular season.
