Jets swing roster deadline day trade with the Raiders

As NFL teams race to finalize their initial 53-man rosters, the New York Jets made a move to address one of their more pressing depth concerns.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, they acquired offensive lineman Jordan Meredith from the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. New York will send a 2027 sixth-round pick to Las Vegas and receive Meredith along with a 2029 seventh-round selection.

The move adds experience to a position group that suddenly carried questions behind projected starters Joe Tippmann, Josh Myers, and Dylan Parham. Meredith entered the league as an undrafted free agent and has appeared in 45 NFL games, making 20 starts during his four-year career.

His ability to play multiple interior positions likely appealed to a Jets team that has emphasized versatility throughout training camp. The timing of the trade is also noteworthy. Rookie offensive lineman Anez Cooper suffered an injury during Friday night's preseason finale against the New York Giants. T he Jets have spent much of the summer evaluating their reserve offensive line options. It was also reported by SNY's Connor Hughes that guard Xavier Newman was released before the NFL's deadline to trim rosters to 53 players .

Meredith provides a player with meaningful regular-season experience and could immediately factor into New York's backup plans entering Week 1. The acquisition is another example of general manager Darren Mougey remaining active as roster decisions unfold around the league.

While many teams wait for waiver claims to address depth concerns, the Jets chose a more direct route by targeting a player they clearly valued. With the Jets holding the No. 2 waiver priority, additional moves could still be on the horizon. For now, however, New York has added a veteran presence to an offensive line room that needed reinforcements heading into the regular season.
