New Derrick Henry Trade Rumors, Latest on Ravens' Stance at NFL Deadline Amid Team's Struggles
Despite the Baltimore Ravens' ongoing four-game losing streak that has dropped their record to 4-5, Derrick Henry is unlikely to be moved prior to Tuesday's trade deadline.
Despite the Baltimore Ravens' ongoing four-game losing streak that has dropped their record to 4-5, Derrick Henry is unlikely to be moved prior to Tuesday's trade deadline.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter , Henry is not expected to be traded to the point that Ravens officials recently informed him they "have no intention" of dealing him.
Schefter added the idea of trading Henry is one the Ravens have "never" considered.
Henry gave no indication he was looking to go anywhere when asked about the possibility of a trade following the Ravens' 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.
"I have not mentioned me going anywhere else," Henry said. "I'm saying, 'Let's go back to work. Let's try to get better and turn this thing around.'"
The Ravens are hoping their offense can rebound with Jacoby Brissett entering the fray. They finalized their trade with the Arizona Cardinals for the veteran quarterback on Friday.
Brissett does mark a significant upgrade at the position over what Baltimore got from undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, who was thrust into action following injuries to Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley.
Huntley is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his turf toe injury. Jackson's status for the rest of the season is unclear due to the thumb injury he suffered on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, but he will at least miss four games after being placed on injured reserve.
With Brissett coming in to try stabilizing things, the Ravens find themselves in a difficult spot ahead of the trade deadline. They are the only team in their division with a losing record and have been outscored by 71 points over their last three games.
Baltimore's upcoming schedule has some winnable games with matchups against the Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans before the bye in Week 13.
However, Henry has looked mortal, at least by his standards, for the first time in his career. He has 545 rushing yards and is averaging 3.6 yards per attempt in eight starts since running for 144 yards in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.
There's also an argument to keep Henry simply because it's hard to imagine teams bowling over the Ravens with a trade offer for a 32-year-old running back who has a $16.3 million cap hit in 2027.
Keeping Henry will help make things easier for Brissett as he gets acclimated to Declan Doyle's offense, so it makes sense in that regard for the Ravens not to move him.
