Dan Quinn still 'furious' about tie with Giants after clock blunder: 'We've got a lot of s*** to clean up'
The Commanders and Giants tied on Sunday after Washington failed to stop the clock and set up a possible game-winning field goal.
Dan Quinn, roughly 24 hours after a brutal mistake cost them a win, is still absolutely livid.
The Washington Commanders head coach, after they failed to stop the clock for a game-winning field goal and ended up tying with the New York Giants on Sunday, said he was "furious" about his team's execution late in the contest.
"We work really hard on these, and it didn't look like that yesterday," he said, via The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov . "I'm pissed about it."
The Commanders, after making it well into field-goal range in the final seconds at Northwest Stadium on Sunday, let time expire in overtime. All they had to do was spike the ball to set up a 41-yard field goal, but Jayden Daniels scrambled instead and didn't leave his team enough time to get another play off.
Quinn erupted on the sidelines, and slammed his headset to the ground before just standing there in disbelief.
Quinn said Monday they wanted to "use some clock after getting into field-goal range" there, even though a made field goal would have ended the game. They handed the ball off to running back Rachaad White, and that play took "entirely too long," he said.
"It was a breakdown. It can't happen," Quinn said. "Our time today as a team was spent on the how and the why and make sure that it never does again. Yesterday's ending was the biggest example, but we've got a lot of s*** to clean up from yesterday's game. "Trust me, everyone in this building, starting with me, feels that urgency."

While a lot of things went wrong for Washington, Quinn has taken a big chunk of the criticism in the wake of the loss. As the head coach, that makes sense. But now that he's in his third season with the team, and they are off to just a 1-3-1 start, it has some questioning his job security.
Quinn holds just an 18-20-1 record leading the Commanders. They made it to the playoffs in his first season, but went just 5-12 last year.
Quinn was asked about his job security Monday, and said he had a conversation with owner Josh Harris on Sunday night. That conversation, however, is a regular thing for them.
"Josh and I talk regularly before games, after games, after good games, after tough games. That's a normal process for us," he said, via The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala . "And trust me, no one is pleased with this outcome and where we're at. But the part that we do have, those hard conversations, were asked about where we're at and what we need to fix and what we need to work on. I like having that communication with him."
The Commanders will take on the undefeated San Francisco 49ers next week on Monday night. Though it's still early, Sunday's slip has helped land Quinn and his team in a tough spot after the early stretch of the season.
And, if there are any more self-inflicted mistakes, calls for Quinn's job are sure to get louder.
