Vita Vea, Bucs Agree to Contract Extension After Trade Request, Latest Rumors on New Deal

After requesting a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Vita Vea will stay with the team that drafted him after signing a new contract .

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the defensive tackle agreed to a one-year, $30 million extension that will give him $6 million in new money this season.

According to Schefter , the Bucs "never considered" trading Vea despite his request.

General manager Jason Licht released a statement after the new deal:

Vea was previously set to play in the final year of a four-year, $71 million deal that he signed in 2022. His $17.8 million salary was a bit low given the rising market for defensive tackles, as he ranked 21st among interior defensive linemen. Spotrac estimates Vea's value to be $27.8 million.

Vea was hoping to get an extension with the Bucs this offseason, which led him to not participate in the team's mandatory minicamp in June.

When that didn't work, he requested a trade from the Bucs on July 27. Ultimately, it didn't have to come to that as he and Tampa Bay were able to work out a new deal.

Now, he'll get back to work with the Bucs and try to bring another championship to the city.

The 31-year-old is coming off a season in which he logged 34 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 17 games.
