Packers' Josh Jacobs pleads no contest to charges of battery, criminal damage to property

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs entered a plea of no contest on Thursday to charges of battery and criminal damage to property.

Jacobs was arrested in May and was originally booked on five charges.

According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky , Jacobs' no contest plea was accepted by the Brown County Court in Wisconsin on the conditions that he is not involved in future criminal acts, avoids contact with the victim, undergoes counseling, remains under supervision and pays restitution to the victim.

Jacobs was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine on the misdemeanor battery charge.

"I fully understand the seriousness of the situation and take full responsibility," Jacobs told the court.

According to a statement from Jacobs' attorney, the court is suspending the criminal damage to property count for 12 months. It will then be dismissed as part of the agreement.

"With this agreement, Josh has accepted responsibility for his conduct and resolved this matter," the statement read. "Today's resolution is set against a career-long history of Josh's community work while in the NFL, which has centered on the circumstances of his early life."

The hearing was originally scheduled for Nov. 17 before being moved to Thursday, three days before the Packers open the season against the Minnesota Vikings .

The alleged incident occurred on May 23 at Jacobs' home. The criminal complaint, according to ESPN , stated that a woman was trying to leave Jacobs' garage when he "grabbed her and threw her to the ground, and she struck her head, suffering an injury."

The Brown County district attorney in Wisconsin said the surveillance video from Jacobs' garage corroborates the alleged victim's claims of what transpired, per The Athletic .

On Aug. 30, Jacobs was placed on the NFL's Commissioner's Exempt List , barring him from practicing or playing for the Packers until he is removed. The league said on Thursday there is "no timetable" for when any punishment could be handed down.

"We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review of the personal conduct policy. There is no change to his status as he remains on the Commissioner's Exempt list."

Per the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, the standard suspension for domestic violence is six games.

Jacobs had 929 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns last season, his second with the Packers after starting his career with the Las Vegas Raiders . He signed a four-year, $48 million deal with the Packers in free agency ahead of the 2024 campaign.
