The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly bringing in veteran competition for struggling kicker Harrison Butker.

According to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star and Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, the Chiefs are signing veteran kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad.

The move comes amid Butker converting just 11 of his 16 field goal attempts (68.8 percent) through six games this season.

Tucker, 36, spent 13 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens from 2012 to 2024, establishing himself as one of the most successful kickers in NFL history during that time.

A seven-time Pro Bowler, five-time First Team All-Pro, one-time Super Bowl champion and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-Decade Team for the 2010s, Tucker was a consistent performer for most of his tenure in Baltimore.

Among qualified players, he is the second-most-accurate kicker in NFL history, making 89.1 percent of his field goal attempts.

Tucker also ranks 14th in NFL history in total field goals made (417) and 17th in career points scored (1,775).

However, Tucker had the worst season of his career in 2024, which was when he kicked most recently in an NFL regular-season contest.

Tucker made a career-low 73.3 percent of his field goals that season, going 22-for-30. He also missed two of his 62 extra-point tries.

While Tucker has participated in tryouts and workouts with the New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets since 2024, joining the Chiefs' practice squad marks the first time he has officially joined a new team since departing Baltimore.

Like Tucker, Butker has long been considered one of the top kickers of his generation, winning three Super Bowls during his 10-year run in Kansas City.

Butker is also among the most-accurate kickers in NFL history, ranking fifth on the all-time list with a field goal percentage of 87.3 percent.

He is trending toward performing below his career field goal percentage for the fourth time in the past five seasons, though, and his five missed field goals this season already match the amount he had all of last season.

Butker had an especially tough time during a 20-3 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, missing two of his three field goal attempts.

Signing Tucker to the practice squad is not a guarantee that Butker will lose his job, but if the misses continue to pile up, the Chiefs now have an experienced secondary option they can turn to.
