Jalen Hurts has been heavily criticised for the Philadelphia Eagles' shaky start to the 2026 season. He and new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion have not produced the results that Eagles fans were expecting.
Hurts had an excellent performance against the Washington Commanders in Week 1, throwing three touchdowns with no interceptions and posting a 122.2 quarterback rating. However, the 28-year-old has thrown four touchdowns and three interceptions over the last three weeks and has not recorded a passer rating above 86 during that span.
After beating the Commanders and the 0-4 Tennessee Titans, while losing to the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams, the Eagles are 2-2 through four weeks. With the Jacksonville Jaguars up next in London, the pressure is on Hurts to raise his level and carry his team.
Jason Kelce reveals what Jalen Hurts is like inside the Eagles locker room
Jalen Hurts is one of the most divisive players in the NFL because, although he is a Super Bowl champion who consistently delivers in big moments, he often flatters to deceive throughout the regular season. He had just 93 passing yards against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4.
Many have criticised Hurts for not stepping up during a difficult period for the Eagles . As the franchise quarterback, he is ultimately responsible for leading the offense and giving his team a chance to win.
Former teammate Jason Kelce has now shared some insight into what Hurts is really like behind the scenes, especially when things are not going well. He admitted to having "tremendous respect" for the quarterback and praised how he remains neutral when the outside noise becomes louder and more critical.
"Jalen Hurts does a great job of not giving a c— what anybody says; he's one of the best at it," Kelce told The Pat McAfee Show . "I don't know what his strategy is as far as dealing with it, but coming into the building, that guy just wants to get better each and every day; he works his tail off. I have a tremendous amount of respect for how Jalen goes about trying to be the best football player he can be.
"As far as how Jalen is in the building, behind the scenes, he's one of the most dedicated people to his craft that I've been around. His temperament is [even keel]… he doesn't let stuff get to him. That guy is as cool as the underside of the pillow: he doesn't get rattled over anything."
