Giants reportedly 'aggressive' in pursuit of help at one position, and it's not RB
The Giants are making a serious push to get a big addition at this position.
The New York Giants are 4-2-1 heading into their Week 9 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles . With a win, the Giants could extend their NFC East lead and further be convinced to be big spenders at the NFL trade deadline.
Currently, they're trending towards buying, with a few positions emerging as potential areas to upgrade. While they might buy, how aggressive will this Giants team actually be in the trade market?
According to NFL insider James Palmer , the Giants have been "very aggressive" in pursuit of one position in trade talks. But, it's not running back for someone like Jonathan Taylor, it's along the defensive line.
Giants have been 'aggressive' in pursuit of DL help
"The Giants are another team to keep an eye on. They have been very aggressive, just like Jacksonville on that defensive front," Palmer said. "There have been some names contacted around the NFL... that I didn't expect teams would be reaching out about because they're borderline untouchable."
This report from Palmer indicates that the Giants are going to make a real push to land a star defensive lineman this season. There are a few names that stand out.
While Moro Ojomo of the Philadelphia Eagles probably isn't realistic, with the Eagles not being likely to trade him in-division, someone like Derrick Brown of the Carolina Panthers or Vita Vea of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be in play.
More realistically, though, the Giants could look to acquire Grover Stewart from the Indianapolis Colts . Nnamdi Madibuike from the Baltimore Ravens , if they decide to sell, could be a fun option as well.
New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore would make plenty of sense, and there are other options like Bobby Brown III of the Panthers and New Orleans Saints ' DTs Davon Godchaux and Nathan Shepherd that are worth considering.
John Harbaugh and the Giants already tried making a push for Jeffery Simmons before he was dealt to the Chicago Bears .
They are willing to spend big on a top lineman, even though they might not be as good as their 4-2-1 record might indicate.
While they might still be in the market for running back help, and another position or two could make sense, defensive lineman has become a position to watch for the Giants at the 2026 NFL trade deadline.
