Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson could "potentially" practice this week ahead of a showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals as he continues to try to work his way back from an ankle injury, head coach Jesse Minter said on Monday.
Jackson has missed Baltimore's last two games, a 30-23 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons and a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Baltimore (4-2) is currently in a three-way tie for first place in the AFC North, with Cincinnati (3-2) just a half-game back. In other words, this weekend's game looms large.
Jackson's health was a major storyline for the Ravens early in the season, as he exited the Week 4 contest against the Tennessee Titans.
All eyes were on his status ahead of Baltimore's Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported in the lead-up that there was "a realistic chance" he would play against the division rivals. However, he was not able to play in that game.
The only way the Ravens can realistically accomplish all their goals this season is with a healthy Jackson on the field, as he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league with a resume that includes two league MVPs, three First-Team All-Pro nods and four Pro Bowl selections.
His ability to make plays with both his arm and legs is nearly unrivaled and creates matchup nightmares for opposing defenses.
Jackson has completed 70.8 percent of his passes for 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception to go with 144 yards and a score on the ground as a rusher in four games this season.
Fortunately for the Ravens, they do have a capable backup in Tyler Huntley.
Huntley went 2-0 in starts during the 2025 season and then led the overtime win over the Falcons when Jackson was out. While Baltimore needs its star quarterback to be healthy over the long-term course of the season, Huntley has proven he can help the team tread water if needed. But with Cincinnati, the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars all looming over the next three weeks, the Ravens will need Jackson healthy as quickly as possible.
