Former Browns star Myles Garrett headed to IR, getting knee surgery

Former Browns star Myles Garrett will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and be placed on injured reserve, according to multiple reports on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Garrett, who was traded from Cleveland to the Los Angeles Rams during the offseason, will miss at least four games. He is eligible to return for the Rams' Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals .

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year missed most of training camp because of swelling in his knee. He wore a sleeve on his left leg during several practices before the Rams' season opener against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia.

Garrett said after the loss that his knee was not fully healthy entering the game and called his performance the worst version of himself he had put on the field.

"I've got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be and I've shown that I've been before," Garrett said Friday.

The Rams acquired Garrett in an offseason trade that sent defensive end Jared Verse and three draft picks, including a 2027 first-round pick, to Cleveland .

Garrett set an NFL record with 23 sacks last season for the Browns .

Rams wanted Maxx Crosby before pivoting to Myles Garrett trade with Browns

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and ESPN , the Rams may have passed on acquiring Garrett if their initial idea worked.

Rapoport reported Sunday morning that the Rams initially wanted to trade for Crosby. But the pass rusher who has 69.5 career sacks said he didn't want to be traded by the Las Vegas Raiders .

After that fell apart, the Rams pivoted to Garrett.

The Raiders, meanwhile, traded Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens . It was nixed after Baltimore failed Crosby's physical.
