Josiah Trotter, Jeremiah Trotter's son, has sack, pick 6 in historic NFL debut

Josiah Trotter comes from strong NFL pedigree. He put it on full display in his NFL debut.

A rookie linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , Trotter is the son of former Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro Jeremiah Trotter. After a standout college career with Missouri and West Virginia, Trotter was a second-round selection by the Bucs in April's NFL Draft.

His first NFL game on Sunday was one to remember. Early in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Bengals , Trotter came up with a sack of Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow .

The third-down ended Cincinnati's drive and forced the Bengals to settle for a field goal.

On Cincinnati's next possession, Trotter came up even bigger. This time Burrow threw a pass in the flat on third-and-5 targeting Andrei Iosivas . Trotter was in coverage and jumped the route.

He intercepted the ball in stride and ran untouched down the left sideline for a pick 6.

The touchdown cut Cincinnati's lead to 27-20 late in the third quarter and made a once 21-3 game competitive. And, per the Associated Press , Trotter is the first player since sacks became an official stat in 1982 to record a sack and a pick 6 in his NFL debut.

Unfortunately for the Bucs, the effort didn't help them to victory in a 33-27 Bengals win .

Trotter's father, Jeremiah, had a standout 11-season NFL career playing for Philadelphia, Washington and Tampa Bay . He made four Pro Bowls and was twice named All-Pro. His brother, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., is a third-year pro playing for the Eagles.

Now Josiah's in the NFL looking to make a name for himself with the Bucs. So far so good in a remarkable NFL debut.
