Jay-Z Announced as NFL Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show Performer in Los Angeles
Jay-Z chose himself.
Roc Nation, which was founded by the rapper, has a partnership with the NFL that includes advising on the selection of the Super Bowl halftime performer. And this season's halftime performer at Super Bowl LXI at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, will be none other than Jay-Z himself.
Apple Music announced the selection at halftime of the Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
"From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," Jay-Z said in a statement . "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell also released a statement and referenced the league's partnership with the rapper.
"For several years, we've had the privilege of working closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation, and I've seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show," Goodell said.
"When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn't be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage."
Since the NFL entered its partnership with Roc Nation in August 2019, the Super Bowl halftime shows have been as follows:
2020: Shakira and Jennifer Lopez featuring Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Emme Muniz
2022: Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar featuring 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak
2026: Bad Bunny featuring Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin
Jay-Z will be the latest headliner to take one of the biggest stages in music, and he has earned his spotlight with a legendary career.
As Laura Zornosa and Maane Khatchatourian of the Los Angeles Times detailed, it will be another celebration of the 25-time Grammy winner's career after he performed back-to-back concerts at SoFi Stadium last weekend as a stop on his "Jay-Z 30" tour honoring the 30th anniversary of "Reasonable Doubt," which was his debut album.
What's more, he also sold out three shows at Yankee Stadium in July.
And now he will take the stage at the Super Bowl.
