Jalen Ramsey Gives Injury Update, Talks Status for Steelers vs. Browns Amid Wrist Issue

The Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with a key injury in their secondary.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey said Tuesday that he has a broken wrist and his status for Thursday's game against the Cleveland Browns is to be determined.

"It's just going to be about seeing if I'm able to protect it and also still be myself in a good enough capacity where I feel like if I go out there, I won't be letting any of my teammates down," Ramsey said.

The 31-year-old Ramsey is in his second season with the Steelers after recording 88 tackles, three sacks, an interception and eight passes defended last season. He also played all 17 games for the second year in a row.

Ramsey has had a solid start to the season, recording 17 tackles, a pass defended and a forced fumble. His presence in the secondary has helped the Steelers get off to a 2-1 start despite some lackluster performances from the offense.

Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that he thinks Ramsey will do his best to be on the field against the Browns.

"Jalen has a wrist injury. We'll obviously get you the report today after practice and so forth," McCarthy said. "It's too early to tell, but just based off his history, I think he'll do everything he possibly can to play."

While the Steelers likely won't rush Ramsey back onto the field if he isn't ready by Thursday, they'd clearly prefer to have him available given all the injuries to the secondary. Brandin Echols is currently in the concussion protocol, and Joey Porter Jr.'s status remains up in the air as well.

If Ramsey is unable to play, rookie corner Doneiko Slaughter might have to fill in for him in the slot position. While Slaughter played a few snaps against the Bengals last week, his lack of experience would make things tough for the Steelers against a divisional rival.
