CBS Sports made it official Thursday: J.J. Watt is the network's new lead NFL game analyst. The network confirmed Watt will continue to call games alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson, including next season's Super Bowl.

The promotion also comes with a new multi-year deal for Watt. CBS Sports did not unveil the financial details of that agreement.

In a statement, Watt said he was " honored and grateful " for the opportunity.

"I am incredibly honored and grateful to have the opportunity to represent CBS Sports and all of the fantastic people who make this place so special," said Watt. "From the brotherhood of THE NFL TODAY to my crews calling games, I couldn't ask for better teammates alongside me on this television journey. I am thankful to David Berson for his leadership, vision and trust. I love this job and can't wait to see ya Sunday with Jim and Tracy and many more Sundays to come!"

Watt's promotion comes just a few weeks after CBS Sports split ways with former lead NFL analyst Tony Romo, who was arrested in July for suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

Following that arrest, Romo was quickly placed on leave by the network. With Romo's status still in limbo as the NFL season approached, CBS decided Watt would work alongside Nantz and Wolfson on the network's top broadcasting team . CBS' dismissal of Romo in early October further solidified Watt's position as the network's top play-by-play man.

After turning in a Hall of Fame-worthy career, Watt retired after the 2022 NFL season and joined the broadcasting world. He's risen in the field quickly, getting the top job at CBS after just a few seasons on the job.

As a broadcaster, Watt is known for his intense preparation , a trait that made him a phenomenal pass rusher back in his playing days.
