Updated Patriots, Texans WR Depth Charts After Kayshon Boutte Trade amid Fantasy Football Drafts

With Jayden Higgins out for the season because of a torn ACL , the Houston Texans reportedly continued bolstering their wide receiver depth Monday.

Tom Pelissero of the Ringer reported the Texans sent safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for Kayshon Boutte. This comes after Houston added both Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones.

The trade bolsters Houston's overall ceiling in its race for an AFC South title and from a fantasy perspective.

After all, there were plenty of question marks about the room following Higgins' injury. Tank Dell hasn't played since the 2024 campaign, and Nico Collins was the only wide receiver on the team last season to finish with more than 525 receiving yards.

In fact, Higgins was second in that category, which meant it remained very much up in the air who would be the No. 2 option outside of Collins.

Enter Boutte, who had a career-high six touchdown catches last season and a combined 1,149 receiving yards the last two years. While he isn't someone who is realistically going to challenge for 1,000-plus yards in 2026, he is a proven option who should be able to fully capitalize on the double teams that Collins will surely draw.

That also makes him more valuable from a fantasy perspective than he would have been in New England this season after the reigning AFC champions added both A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs to the room.

Boutte likely would have been the third option at best, and that's not even including tight end Hunter Henry.

That Boutte was moved does not come as a surprise, as Karen Guregian of Mass Live reported he "requested a trade as far back as April." What's more, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported earlier this month he "would welcome a trade if the right situation presented itself."

It did present itself, and Boutte appears ready to take over the No. 2 role in Houston's offense alongside Collins. That also gives Dell a bit more time to work his way back into form after being away so long.

If everything goes according to plan, C.J. Stroud could have three game-changing wide receivers to work with this season following this trade.
