Ben Johnson Hints He Wanted 60 Points Against Panthers

Johnson appeared on ESPN 1000 Chicago on Monday, September 14. He spoke about his team's big win over the Carolina Panthers, and the offensive onslaught his team produced to start the season.

In this appearance, Johnson made an admission about the game. He hinted that he considered a two-point attempt to push his team to 60 points in the win.

When the radio host mentioned thinking about a two-point try, Johnson remarked , "I don't think you were the only one."

Bears fans likely love this sort of comment. The aggressive mindset on offense made Johnson an in-demand head-coaching candidate when he ran the Detroit Lions offense. It's no surprise to see him take that same mindset and apply it to his work with Chicago.

However, admitting to something like this after a blowout win does carry the risk of rubbing people the wrong way. That is exactly what happened, as many football fans took issue with this comment.

"Biggest ego in the league. He needs to be humbled," one fan said on social media.

"It's going to come back to bite him. The NFL isn't a league that rewards showing teams up," another fan said .

"Absolute piece of [expletive]. I want to see his pretty boy reaction when a team rams the score up his [expletive]," a third fan wrote in rather blunt terms .

Time will tell whether Johnson receives the humbling that these fans want to witness. For now, the Bears head coach has the right to gloat. He has earned some bragging rights over the last year.

Johnson took the Chicago head coaching job before the 2025 campaign. After a bit of a slow start, Chicago went on quite a run. The Bears won the NFC North and defeated the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Round.

Chicago's playoff run ended in the Divisional Round. However, it gave the city plenty of reasons to believe in Johnson. His connection with Caleb Williams is clear to see. The future possibilities are tantalizing, to say the least.

It will certainly be interesting to see which team can take Bears down this year. Chicago will look for a second straight win on September 20 when they take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.
