Darius Slayton, Colts Reportedly Agree to Contract Amid Alec Pierce Injury, Latest Fantasy Impact

After being released by the New York Giants before the start of the season, Darius Slayton is back on an NFL roster.

Per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Indianapolis Colts signed the veteran receiver on Monday after Alec Pierce suffered a heel injury against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Slayton spent the first seven years of his career with the Giants, racking up 4,435 yards and 22 touchdowns. In 2025, he had 538 yards and a touchdown in 14 games.

With New York adding Darnell Mooney and Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason, the release of Slayton wasn't all that surprising. The Giants also saved over $3 million in cap space by releasing him.

Now, he'll get the chance to reunite with Daniel Jones in Indianapolis. Slayton's best seasons came when he was catching passes from Jones, and he'll look to get back to his best form with the Colts.

As for how big a role he'll play in Indianapolis, that depends on how long Piece is out. According to Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star, Pierce is "likely" going to be out for several weeks, so the Colts will need some players to step up in the meantime.

Josh Downs will presumably be Jones' first option, and he played well after Pierce's exit on Sunday, catching seven passes for 72 yards in the overtime loss to the Chiefs.

Keenan Allen will likely get more targets as well, and Indianapolis will need to rely on tight end Tyler Warren more in the coming weeks. Slayton will certainly have the chance to play a big role, but he might not be worth fantasy managers picking up just yet.

He'll look to settle in with the Colts over the next week before potentially making his debut against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
