The Dallas Cowboys are preparing for their upcoming Week 5 contest. It hasn't been the smoothest start to the season for Dak Prescott and his teammates, as Dallas is 2-2, though they are coming off a win over the Houston Texans.

The Cowboys expect to contend for a playoff spot once the season reaches the home stretch. Dallas has a ton of talent on the roster, and if things go according to plan, there is certainly a chance this team can contend.

However, one NFL analyst believes the Cowboys' chances of contention rest on the success of one man. Without Prescott under center, he believes Dallas could be in rather rough shape.

Colin Cowherd Lavishes High Praise on Cowboys' Dak Prescott

Colin Cowherd, during a segment on "The Herd w/ Colin Cowherd," discussed the Cowboys and where they stand at this point in the season. Without Prescott, he believes the picture wouldn't look so pretty.

"If the Cowboys are the world's biggest rock band, he is the manager. As they're trashing the hotel rooms, he's making the beds," Cowherd said about Prescott. "He makes sure he keeps it glued together; he gets everybody on stage as close to on time as you possibly can with the Dallas Cowboys."

Cowherd mentioned all sorts of things that Prescott has managed throughout his career. The veteran quarterback is talented on the field. But it's his presence on this team that could be one of his greatest strengths.

"If he's your kid, you make him the executor of the will. A stabilizing force. He's dealt with Dez Bryant and Ezekiel Elliott's immaturity early, Jerry (Jones') vanity always, now it's George Pickens' moodiness," Cowherd added. "Even in his rookie year… Tony Romo noticed immediately, to Romo's credit, the maturity."

Prescott has certainly been a leader for this team for a number of years. The Cowboys have been a playoff contender for much of his career to this point, as they have made the playoffs five times during Prescott's first 10 NFL seasons.

So far this season, Prescott has continued his strong level of play. Though Dallas has stumbled a couple of times, the quarterback play has been steady. He has thrown for eight touchdowns and just one interception this year.

Heading into Week 5, Prescott is ranked fourth on PFN's QB Impact Metric , with an impact score of 82.3.

Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, the Cowboys have faltered a bit this year. They began the season with a brutal loss to the New York Giants in Week 1. It was a frustrating 28-20 loss on Sunday Night Football and a difficult way to begin the new campaign.

Dallas did rebound in Week 2, picking up a win over the Washington Commanders. However, a trip to São Paulo, Brazil, brought another loss. The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Cowboys, and Dallas' coaches' questionable decisions cost the team.

As mentioned, Dallas is coming off a win in their last contest. They faced their intrastate rival, the Texans, and took care of business. It was a close game, but Prescott's 335 yards passing helped seal a victory.

Dallas has a short week this week. The Cowboys are playing on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 5. Short weeks are never fun, but this is another opportunity for Prescott's leadership and maturity to guide Dallas once again.
